Each year, Global Fleet Champions, a not-for-profit campaign established by road safety charity Brake, celebrates the hard work and dedication of fleets and other organisations that strive to improve road safety and ultimately save lives.
This year, Alison Cartwright of Tiger Trailers has been shortlisted for the UK Fleet Champions’ ‘Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety’, which is for ‘an organisation or individual that has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their commitment to road safety, not just within the company but also the wider community’.
The other nominees shortlisted for this road safety award are Anne-Marie Penny and Mark Cartwright from National Highways, individually, and Richard Edwards from the business Be-Seen-Screen, which has pioneered a solution for making broken-down vehicles highly visible without the need for a traditional warning triangle placed 45 metres behind.
Alison’s nomination, submitted by Emma Elston from UK Container Maintenance, is significantly based on her vision in setting up and implementing the Tiger Safety Team, which visits schools across Cheshire to teach vital road safety lessons to children ahead of their transition to high school, helping to keep them safe around large vehicles from HGV trucks and trailers to buses, refuse collection waggons and agricultural vehicles.
A year on from founding the Tiger Safety Team, with support from Volvo Trucks UK and Brake, Alison expanded her road safety initiatives to include local charities through the Cheshire Community Foundation, such as Cheshire Buddies and Passion For Learning, whose young beneficiaries receive the same eye-opening road safety lessons.
The 2022 UK Fleet Champions Awards’ ‘Kevin Storey Award for Outstanding Commitment to Road Safety’ category is sponsored by Samsara, whose telematics and other data platforms and technologies enable businesses to make decisions based on real-time insights, ultimately helping them to increase safety, efficiency and sustainability of their logistics, road transport fleet, and other operations.
Overall, 38 organisations and individuals have been shortlisted to win one of 11 awards at this year’s UK Fleet Champions Awards ceremony, which will be held at Manchester City Football Club’s Etihad Stadium on the 20th of October, with VisionTrack the umbrella sponsor.
