Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in action.

How Tiger Trailers’ and its CSR team help to care for local communities and strive to make a difference through various corporate social responsibility, charitable, industry-focussed and safety-related initiatives.

As one of the UK’s leading articulated trailer manufacturers, with an employee base of over 220 people at its site in Cheshire, and with its large vehicle products prominently visible across the UK road network, Tiger Trailers’ keen desire to give back to, support and make a difference in its local communities, the haulage industry and the wider world is multi-faceted. The manufacturer is also passionate about sustainability and strives to increasingly introduce environmentally efficient ‘green’ components and engineering approaches to its products, working alongside like-minded suppliers. Discover the initiatives that form part of Tiger Trailers’ CSR activities.

Tiger Safety Team was launched in November 2021 and provides its ‘STOP, LOOK, BE SEEN’ road safety programme to children in years 5 and 6 in schools across Cheshire and UK-wide, free of charge as part of our community work as an HGV trailer manufacturer with tens of thousands of large and therefore dangerous vehicles on roads. Our educational safety programme has been continuously developed with support from other transport, safety and educational parties. We teach safety to approximately 1,000 children per year and each visit comprises indoor classroom lessons plus outdoor interactive sessions around the truck, with a zebra crossing and other props bringing everything to life and reaching your learners’ minds with important safety messages. If you would like Tiger Safety Team to visit your school, we would love to hear from you.

Tiger Trailers is a proud supporter of Cheshire Community Foundation and a member of the organisation’s Cheshire 100. CCF exists to improve the lives of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in our local communities, supporting grassroots community projects that make a real difference. Tiger affiliates itself with such organisations that benefit the local area where a large number of the manufacturer’s 275+ employees live, and regularly works with specific charities through its CCF membership, including Cheshire Buddies, and Passion For Learning.

CSR - In the Community - Cheshire Community Foundation trans
CSR - In the Community - Young Chamber (West Cheshire North Wales Chamber of Commerce)

Tiger Trailers is a sponsor of the West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce’s Young Chamber initiative, which benefits local schools and colleges, bridging the gap between education and businesses in Tiger Trailers’ local area. Young Chamber helps students to develop the skills they will require in the workplace, which also helps the schools involved to meet Ofsted and Estyn requirements. Tiger’s HR team and others donate their time to provide mock interview sessions, which has given the manufacturer a space in which to promote careers in engineering and the road transport industry to young women in particular.

At regular times each year such as Easter and Christmas, Tiger Trailers invites a group of young people and their support team from Cheshire Buddies, a charity that is part of Cheshire Community Foundation, to the factory to experience what it’s like to work in the manufacturing industry. #TeamTiger holds a raffle each Easter, the proceeds from which are donated to Cheshire Buddies, and the same happens after Christmas Jumper Day.

Tiger Trailers is proud to support a charity from Cheshire called Mentell, which provides online and in-person groups or ‘circles’ for men aged 18+ to talk (or just listen) in a safe and confidential space, with no advice or judgement. Some of Mentell’s team visit Tiger during Mental Health Awareness Week, and Tiger has also supported Mentell in public through a bike ride from Manchester to Blackpool on Sunday to raise awareness and also money so that the charity can help as many men as possible. Our support of Mentell is fitting as the charity is also part of Cheshire Community Foundation, and Tiger’s workforce is mainly male.

As part of our CSR activities, Tiger Trailers also collaborates with emergency services such as Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service. Our latest project saw us host a BIKER DOWN! session at Tiger’s facilities on a Saturday. Attended by a dozen bikers plus some friends, the 4-hour course presented by volunteers covered modules entitled ‘Rider Skills and the Science of Being Seen’, ‘Scene Management’, and ‘Casualty Care’. Tiger plans to run a similar event with Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service in early 2024, opened up to the Winsford community.

Tiger Trailers has collaborated with local Volvo Trucks UK dealer Thomas Hardie Commercials for some years, its colourful Globetrotter sporting a Derian House livery often accompanying Tiger at events it attends such as Road Transport Expo 2023. Through this close working relationship, we also wanted to raise as much awareness and encourage as much donation-raising for this worthy cause as possible, so in October 2023 to make National Lorry Week from the RHA, we visited Derian House to present a very special curtainsider featuring drawings from and photos of some of the children they care for.

Tiger Trailers is proud to announce having joined Women in Transport as a corporate member and having already enrolled a number of our women and also men. As a leading HGV trailer and rigid bodywork manufacturer, we chose Women in Transport as the
organisation focusses specifically on the employment, career development and retention of women in the transport industry we work in and supply to. Tiger’s membership of Women in Transport demonstrates our proactive commitment to bringing about positive changes for our people and the road transport sector.

Tiger is proud to support The Prince’s Trust though holding events such as the charitable organisation’s Brilliant Breakfast to raise funds to support disadvantaged young women live, learn and earn. We also support The Prince’s Trust’s ‘TEAM’ programme by providing career enrichment opportunities for the young people that the charity works with, opening their minds to a future in manufacturing through hands-on experience. The Prince’s Trust ‘Team’ programme is typically a 12-week personal development course comprised work experience, practical skills, community projects and a residential week, with graduation and a qualification on completion. It’s a life-changing programme designed to boost confidence and open the door to work or further training.

Passion For Learning is another local charity under the umbrella of the Cheshire Community Foundation, and one which Tiger welcomes to its factory regularly each year. A typical visit from the charity sees Cheshire charity Passion For Learning brought over a dozen youngsters from local schools the organisation cares for spending a day at the manufacturer’s site, where they are inspired with different career opportunities from coachbuilding and welding to electrical work and truck-driving, brought to life by role-playing in the various PPE. The children are also typically taught safety lessons by the Tiger Safety Team, and spend time with the Tiger’s engineering department, designing and materialising items such as fluorescent keyrings using a 3D printer.

Tiger Trailers is delighted to have provided initial support to non-profit organisation Veterans into Logistics at an important time for the community interest company (CIC) itself, the ex-military personnel and families it assists, and the supply chain and haulage industry as a whole. Tiger Trailers has inspected, serviced and carried out modifications to ViL’s class 1 ‘box van’ trailer, and looks forward to providing ongoing support to such a worthy cause with many beneficiaries. VIL and Tiger support each other at various events, such as XPO/Saint-Gobain UK’s Driver of the Year, Sustainability & Safety event at Mallory Park, and from 2024 Tiger is sponsoring a veteran as a Bronze Patron of Veterans into Logistics.
