In a deal physically demonstrating post-Brexit trade, Tiger Trailers, which has always historically been able to include a number of overseas operators on its growing list of customers, has delivered the first fifty dual-height mega trailer curtainsiders to ECS, one of Belgium’s leading logistics companies. Manufactured to EN 12642 XL standards, the fully galvanised curtainsider trailers built for ECS by Tiger feature dual 5th wheel ride heights of 1050mm and 1200mm, enabling them to be operated seamlessly on UK and European roads, reflecting the customer’s image as a European trade gateway.
Jonas Van Den Broucke, Technical Fleet Manager at ECS, commented: “Following problems with other trailers in the past, relating to tyre sizes and especially quality and durability issues, we turned to Tiger Trailers and were impressed from the outset with their open and transparent style of business, the level of support provided throughout the briefing, production, delivery and aftercare stages, and the high quality of the finished product.”
The specification set out by and the package agreed with ECS, headquartered in Zeebrugge, included five pairs of load-securing restraint straps to suit the roof tracks, 385/55 premium brand tyres, a raft of safety measures spanning a reflective rear livery, a blind spot sticker, yellow stripes identifying the 4m line and mega trailer warning decals, plus an 8-year corrosion warranty.
This Tiger order from ECS is the first in further planned additions spanning the next four years, which will complement the Belgian operator’s already sizeable fleet of more than 10,000 rail containers plus 600 dry and 200 reefers. ECS’ new mega trailers were quickly set to work at its harbour locations which link the firm’s continental and UK warehouses with end customers including many leading supermarkets. Supply chain service provider 2XL was merged with ECS in spring 2017, marking the formation of an all-encompassing European logistics group.
“We are very happy with the quality and detail of our new mega trailers. Tiger’s team listened carefully to our brief and delivered a solution that contributes to ECS fulfilling our expansion strategies as we become even stronger as a post-Brexit trade gateway. Tiger’s dedication and timeliness give us confidence”, said Didier Moeneclaey, Head of Immo Projects & Investments.
In the year to December 2020, Cheshire-based semi-trailer manufacturer Tiger Trailers posted record financial results, with profit significantly increased. The introduction of new products and services such as Tiger Finance operating lease packages, Tiger Rentals trailer hire, and ‘reefer’ fridge trailers, combined with continuous innovation and investment, increasingly efficient production methods and the OEM’s partnership with Lecitrailer in Spain, all contributed to the firm’s performance and enable it to offer comparatively attractive industry lead times on curtainsiders and other solutions.
“It was a pleasure to work closely with the ECS team in designing and delivering their first order from Tiger following us visiting their operations in Belgium to understand their requirements first hand.” He adds: “We are delighted that ECS are pleased with their new dual-height curtainsider mega trailers, the production of which wasn’t impeded despite the UK’s second lockdown, and it’s exciting to be supporting a company with strategies as ambitious as ours”, remarked Tiger Trailers’ Business Development Director, Stephen Pollock.
