Dextra welcomes single-axle, rear-steer 8.75m urban curtainsider and more rigids to its expanding Tiger fleet

The leading UK manufacturer of energy efficient lighting, Dextra Group plc, has taken delivery of additional Tiger Trailers-built curtainsided rigid trucks along with a special urban trailer designed for the restricted environments in which the company’s vehicles often operate.

At just 8.75m in length, Dextra’s new single-axle curtainsided urban trailer from Tiger represents the versatile middle ground between the lighting manufacturer’s longer double deck trailers and its 26t rigids. Designed to transport twelve 4ft pallets, the trailer is highly manoeuvrable with a reduced turning circle courtesy of the SAF Command Steer system, while the 1,700kg-rated ANTEO cantilever tail lift enables loading and unloading from the back of the trailer only, in situations too constrained for FLT usage. The trailer is XL-rated for durability and robustness and has an internal load securing system configured for Dextra’s expensive and fragile lighting equipment cargos.

Ben Chant, Transport Manager, comments: “Tiger Trailers listened to our requirements and as always, the end result is impressive. The unique rear steer trailer should prove extremely useful for the less accessible sites where our usual practice of offloading using a truck-mounted forklift isn’t an option. The new trailer and rigid bodied trucks are bespoke additions to our existing fleet and give us greater flexibility to efficiently service both our existing and new clients.”

Dextra has also added a brace of additional Tiger-manufactured rigid curtainsiders on Mercedes Actros chassis to its fleet at the start of 2023, which are also fitted with 1,700kg tail lifts, ten pairs of lashing rings and four load-securing tracks, a double-skin bulkhead with a cut-out for strap storage, a toolbox and Dextra-branded spray suppression.

Stephen Pollock, Tiger Trailers’ Business Development Director, says: “It’s a pleasure to look after Dextra’s requirements and we were all excited at the prospect of designing and building their rather unique and special short urban curtainsider. We are proud that Ben and his colleagues are pleased with the end result, along with the repeat orders for rigids that we have also manufactured – and we are now looking forward to soon commencing with production of their next batch of fixed double deck trailers.”

These latest additions take Dextra’s Tiger-badged fleet to seven assets, which equates to half of the lighting firm’s total of fifteen HGVs, and the company has already placed further repeat orders with Tiger Trailers, comprised two extra curtainsided double deck step-frame trailers in February followed by a pair of additional Mercedes Actros rigids – with MirrorCam and supplied by dealer Rygor Commercials – in May, which will then take Tiger’s share of the firm’s fleet to 73%.

Dextra’s activities see its transport fleet regularly operate across Europe, from Belgium to Spain, and the company’s specialism in lighting results in it manufacturing, delivering and installing cutting-edge systems to a wide range of end users, from hospitals and schools to international retailers.
