One of the UK’s leading HGV trailer and rigid bodywork manufacturers, Tiger Trailers, has been named the national winner in the ‘Local Economy of the Future – Business of the Year’ category at the British Chambers of Commerce’s annual Chamber Business Awards 2024.
The Local Economy of the Future award “recognises a business that can demonstrate exceptional levels of growth with a strong plan for sustainable financial performance and a ‘meaningful’ contribution to the UK economy, as well as contributing to their local economy through working with local stakeholders and engaging with local community organisations”.
The British Chambers of Commerce revealed that Tiger Trailers, a member of West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce, “won the award after impressing judges with their ‘clear direction, purpose and mission’ alongside a strong contribution to their local community”.
Sarah Howard MBE, Chair of the British Chambers of Commerce said: “Tiger Trailers has grown exceptionally since it was founded ten years ago. The business has shown remarkable growth, community commitment and forward thinking leadership. Their future plans to create jobs, enhance local partnerships and foster innovation will have a really positive impact in Cheshire and beyond.”
Winning this award reflects how giving back to the community has become a hugely significant area of focus for Tiger Trailers over the last few years, while in parallel the firm’s turnover has increased exceptionally year on year since its founding ten years ago. A significant proportion of each year’s profits are reinvested with long term financial sustainability in mind, combined with with ongoing investment in equipment, facilities, training, skills, morale and retention. Tiger plants a number of trees for each order it receives, has installed a large array of solar panels on its factory roof, and its supply chain continues to increasingly seek to procure sustainable components from likeminded suppliers.
Tiger’s CSR focus began in 2021 when the Tiger Safety Team was launched, with over 1,200 school children having received its potentially life-saving HGV safety message to date. The automotive manufacturer regularly raises donations for and welcomes charities under the Cheshire Community Foundation umbrella to its site, and provides work experience to young people through The King’s Trust’s TEAM placement programme, while additionally supporting the organisation by hosting mock interviews.
The company also regularly engages with local people and businesses through activities such as sponsorship of Winsford Pride and Winsford Town Mayor’s Oskars awards, sponsoring ex-military personnel into HGV driving careers through Veterans Into Logistics, hosting events for and promoting the activities of Women In Transport, which actively aims to raise the profile of the transport sector to women, by raising awareness of and funds for a children’s hospice, and by hosting motorcycle safety events for the emergency services.
Tiger continues to work with new customers year or year, and its strong order books and a healthy sales pipeline place the Cheshire West employer – with a workforce of around 270 people – in an extremely positive position for the 2025 and beyond, with ambitious growth plans that include further development of its modern facility to enable increased production output, creating additional job opportunities as a result, as it continues to widen its product range and enter new markets.
West Cheshire & North Wales Chamber of Commerce described Tiger Trailers winning the national ‘Local Economy of the Future – Business of the Year’ award as a “fantastic achievement”, and the firm’s Managing Director, Ed Booth, attended the awards event at the London Stock Exchange coinciding with the closing of the market.
