National postal operator, Whistl, has taken delivery of 42 new rigid truck bodies from Tiger Trailers after being impressed by the manufacturing processes in place at the company’s facility in Winsford.
Each of the trucks are leased via contract hire firm, BRS, and represents the first time Whistl has requested Tiger Trailers as its preferred bodybuilder for its rigid fleet – something that BRS was happy to facilitate. The new rigids, mounted to Renault trucks, replace older variants and are split across 26 18-tonne and 16 26-tonne curtainside and box bodies.
Baz Barrett, National Fleet and Compliance Manager for Whistl, explains: “I was visiting Tiger to discuss trailers, but when we were on the factory floor I saw a rigid body being built. I asked the team to take me through the build and that was all it took to convince me. The product was perfect for our needs.”
Tiger Trailers aims to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for all its customers, establishing exactly what each business requires so it can recommend the correct specification for each build. After several meetings with both Whistl and BRS, features including an under-slung tail lift, allowing for easier backing onto loading bays, were incorporated into the design. Tiger Trailers also applied the Whistl livery to each of the trucks, in a move aimed at saving costs for the customer.
Barrett concludes: “Throughout the build process I’ve been back to Tiger’s factory several times and am always impressed by the consistent approach to quality. Their attention to detail throughout the process has been first class. Making suggestions such as handling the application of our livery makes the whole process easier and cost-effective.”
The trucks will be part of the Whistl commercial vehicle fleet and will be based out of the company’s sites in Bristol, Iver, Bolton, Rugby and Glasgow. They will be on the road six days a week collecting mail and parcels across the country, with each vehicle clocking up around 80,000 km per year.
The second largest postal operator in the UK, Whistl provides collection and delivery services for business mail, parcels and door-drop media distribution, both in the UK and internationally.
