Electrical Engineer // Engineering team

What is your background and current job at Tiger?
I began here at Tiger Trailers as an apprentice at the age of 25 in September 2019 and won the company’s ‘apprentice of the year award’. I worked with my mentors to learn electrical and brake systems in kitting, stage 5 and stage 6, then I moved to coachbuilding to receive training on trailer bodies. I learnt how to weld in college and to use this skill in the factory, while studying for a PEO level 2 (Performing Engineering Operations), plus IT and maths to increase my GCSE grades. I received training in cranes, scissor lifts, tools and manual handling from Tiger. I have just finished my Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering BTEC level 3 and am also currently finishing my NVQ level 3 in Workplace Mechanical Engineering, to complete my apprenticeship.
This year I have gained the opportunity to change to working in the design office as an electrical engineer and to progress my education on to a HNC in electrical and electronic engineering.
What is your favourite thing about working at Tiger?
For me it’s the opportunity to learn new things and to work on different and challenging projects, adding qualifications and experience as I progress. Also, I can have a laugh with work mates.
What is your main life achievement?
I am proud about being able to do all of the things I talk about in this article, in a reasonably short period of time. Being an older apprentice, I have felt like I had a lot of catching up to do, but I am getting there.
What do you like doing at weekends?
In my free time, I go to the gym and watch football sometimes.
