Thomas Hardie delivers safety training at Tiger HQ with the Derian House Children’s Hospice Volvo truck
As part of Tiger Trailers’ enhanced employee programmes and initiatives, #TeamTiger’s engineering, production, supply chain, marketing and other departments received the first safety training session delivered by Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd, the main Volvo Truck, Bus & Coach distributor in the North West and North Wales.
The introductory session was delivered by Mike Williams, Thomas Hardie’s Driver Development Specialist, who has an extensive career in HGV driver tuition. The afternoon jointly focussed on the importance of operating a class 1 tractor unit in a safe and considerate manner, and on how pedestrians, fork-lift drivers and others in the vicinity of the truck can keep themselves safe.
Mike demonstrated the driveability and appeal of Volvo’s latest FH16 Globetrotter unit, equipped with rigorous safety features both inside and out, from forward, side-facing, and rear-view cameras and nearside proximity sensors giving the driver an audible warning of someone standing within a metre of the vehicle, to an audible warning to alert a pedestrian when the vehicle is turning left, prompting them to stand clear.
“Our thanks goes out to Mike, the two Steves and Lesley at Thomas Hardie Commercials, and also to Volvo Trucks UK’s marketing director Amanda. Today’s introductory visit was really very appreciated and our engineers and other teams very much enjoyed seeing the truck and hearing from you on such an important subject that Tiger Trailers, as a leading HGV trailer manufacturer, plans to increasingly promote. Your Derian truck looks fantastic and it was eye-opening to be educated on the latest safety technology underneath the stunning livery”, says Alison Cartwright, Tiger Safety Team manager.
The safety sessions took place in Tiger Trailers’ indoor product showroom and various team members had the opportunity to sit inside the cab of the special one-off Derian House Children’s Hospice liveried unit, which has been turning heads and raising awareness and funds for this very worthy cause since the spring of this year.
“I’m really enthusiastic to continue helping you with your employee and safety programmes in any way I can. It’s a breath of fresh air to see a company such as yourself supporting the local community. I’m glad your colleagues enjoyed the visit. Everyone made me feel very welcome and we are excited at the prospect of teaming up with Tiger Trailers again going forward, helping to raise awareness about the dangers of vehicle movements and blind spots, which fits in perfectly with Volvo’s own programmes as a truck manufacturer passionate about safety”, Mike commented.
