Tiger Trailers launches UK’s first 52-pallet moving deck trailer
At this year’s CV Show, Tiger Trailers is proud to be showcasing two new trailers on its stand in Hall 5 – including the UK’s first 52-pallet straight frame double deck trailer to feature a full-length moving deck.
The design – a first in the industry and the subject of several pending patent applications – features a full length moving deck ‘basket’ which is 2,425mm wide, allowing two UK pallets to be loaded side by side, creating a 52-pallet capacity.
Darren Holland, Sales Director at Tiger Trailers, says: “Without doubt, this is one of the most eagerly anticipated trailers to roll off our production line to-date. It is packed full of innovations and we’re expecting a lot of interest in it at the CV Show. We believe it has the potential to really shake-up the double deck market and transform operational efficiency for fleets.”
The trailer on show has been built as a demonstrator and is being made available for customers to trial nationwide, immediately following the exhibition.
It stands out for featuring a unique deck design that can be raised and lowered by a Siamese-style ram system, which has been developed by Tiger’s research and development team. Crucially, it avoids the need for industry-standard cables and pulleys, which are commonplace in the double deck trailer market and prone to breaking and seizing.
Tiger Trailers designed the trailer using Solidworks 3D CAD, before putting the design through a series of finite element analysis (FEA) stress tests. It also built trailer decks which were subjected to actual physical destruction tests, ensuring the new design would far exceed the maximum forces faced in road transport.
Three quarter-length double deck
Joining the demonstrator on the stand is a bespoke-built double deck curtainside trailer which will be delivered to XPO Logistics following the show, for operation on a contract with AkzoNobel, the world’s largest coatings and specialty chemicals company, which owns brands including Dulux.
It offers capacity for up to 44-pallets and features a three-quarter length moving deck, whilst also retaining the ability to operate as a straight frame trailer for very tall cargo. This ensures complete flexibility for the customer, both now and into the future.
Other key features include Tiger Trailers’ hallmark hot-dip galvanised chassis, to provide maximum protection against rust and corrosion over a long life in service.
Curtainside straight frame trailer
Elsewhere at the show, Tiger Trailers will be showcasing the latest straight frame curtainside trailer built for Downton. The trailer will be displayed outside on the John Adams stand, featuring a bespoke load-securing system Tiger installed to meet a specific customer demand.
Downton became Tiger Trailers’ first customer when the company was established in 2014, placing an initial order for 60 trailers. Since then its Tiger fleet has grown to more than 300 trailers.
